Adaptogenic herbs for stress: Mama’s little holiday helper

Ah, the holidays. The most stressful time of the year for many. We’ve all heard that too much stress is unhealthy, and I am here to tell you: don’t be like me. Do what you can to mitigate the effects of stress and avoid burnout. I do believe some people are better equipped to handle stress–hi honey!–but I am not one of them.

I recently got some test results that indicate serious adrenal burnout. The list of symptoms was eerily accurate. One thing that caught my attention was a link between increased adrenal stress and increased allergies. I’ve recently had an uptick in my eczema that coincides with an uptick in early wakings from my 6 yr old. Fractured sleep is a big stressor for me.

While I wait for my new adrenal support program to arrive from the acupuncturist’s office, I have started taking Vital Adapt, a blend of adaptogenic herbs. It contains, among other things, Eleuthera, ashwaganda, schisandra, rhodiola, reishi and cordyceps. It was blended by a master Chinese herbalist.

I’ve taken it in the past at the suggestion of my kids’ integrative pediatrician, and find I start to crave it after a couple of days. I take 2 droppers full 2x a day. Because there’s a tiny bit of licorice in the blend, I find it best to take it before 3pm.

You can find it here. I have no affiliation, just a happy customer. A couple of years ago, I heard a talk by the herbalist behind it and he suggested taking it in a little lightly sweetened green tea. I like it in sparkling water with a drop of stevia.
